Casa Celestina is a mixed-use building designed and completed by the studio of architecture ramos castellano arquitectos.

The building is located in the heart of Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente in the archipelagic country of Cabo Verde.

The building contains commercial and co-working space on the ground floor with seven apartments above.The apartments, 6 of 29 sqm (312 sqf) each, plus the uppermost level the attic 60 sqm (646 sqf), are designed to allow space to be used in the most flexible and adaptable form.

On the ground floor 120 sqm (1292 sqf) for commercial and co-working use on two levels, the project tries to create a direct dialogue between the space and the street through the openings.

The building’s façade is defined by its square openings, which, from the outside, reflect the colors of the city and its vernacular architecture. however, from the inside, these apertures edit external views to ensure calmness and concentration.Since the building was built in the heart of the city of Mindelo, the main goal for the architects was to maximize the rentability of the small space available.

With splashes of color, ample window and balcony openings, the architects sought to integrate the building and the visitor-residents with the surrounding city.

The plot is located on a commercial street, which, over the last 15 years, has transformed its architecture from colorful one-storey houses to small 4-storey apartment buildings.

The apartments are designed to allow space to be used in the most flexible and adaptable form.
